Project Spotlight

Project: Hyatt Regency New Orleans, New Orleans, LA
General Contractor: DonahueFavret Contractors, Mandeville, LA
WELBRO, Maitland, FL
Scope:
  • 40,000 sq. ft. of Level-Right poured at an average depth of 4".

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the Hyatt Regency New Orleans received heavy structural damage, forcing the hotel to shut its doors. In 2011 following extensive renovations, the hotel was able to reopen. One of the products that helped the project meet its tight 14-month schedule was Maxxon's Level-Right. Level-Right was poured at an average depth of 4" and was selected to level the atrium floor, which had sunk during the flooding. Level-Right was also poured in the restaurant on the top floor and in the elevator lobbies.

  • 225,000 sq. ft. of Gyp‐Crete 2000®/3.2K (550,000 sq. ft. upon project completion) poured at a depth of 3/4"

The Muses is a large‐scale, multifamily, mixed income apartment development being built in part of New Orleans that was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. The development, a 263‐unit apartment complex, will soon be certified as the first LEED® NC‐Silver multi‐family development in Louisiana. To achieve LEED® NC Silver Certification the developers paid careful attention to site selection, innovative energy use, and the usage of "green" building materials. Gyp‐Crete 2000/3.2K was used throughout the units, contributing valuable points toward LEED® project certification. Gyp‐Crete 2000/3.2K will also provide tenants with fire safety and added sound deadening.

A New Orleans landmark, the 95-year-old Audubon Building at 921 Canal Street, got a new life as a 201-room Hilton Hotel (now The Ritz-Carlton) in the historic French Quarter.  Some of the credit for the renovation goes to Maxxon dealer Gypsum Subfloors.  The 9-story building (over 85,000 square feet) was gutted and required a new, smooth surface for installation of floor goods.
